Supporting the development of Indian primary school children's reading comprehension skills:  A scaffolding-based intervention

Project introduction

This research project aims to understand why children have difficulty in understanding what they read and how this can be improved in primary school children from disadvantaged backgrounds in Hyderabad.  This would be evaluated by structured intervention by introducing strategies for better reading comprehension in multilingual learners in the school language drawing on home language resources.  It also aims to raise teachers' awareness and children's learning across school subjects.  This project began in January 2021 and will be completed in December 2023.
