Research Background

The project,Multilingualism and Multiliteracy: Raising learning outcomes in challenging contexts in primary schools across India”, is funded jointly by Economic and Social Research Council and the Department for International Development, UK (ESRC-DFID)This four-year research project that started in May 2016 and will be completed in April 2020 was noted as an “outstanding proposal” that was “well planned and carefully budgeted”, by the reviewing panel

 

It builds on Prof. Ianthi Tsimpli's large scale EU-funded THALES bilingualism project which assessed cognitive and language abilities of over 700 children in five different countries, as well as Professor Theo Marinis’ ESRC and NWO (Dutch Research Council) projects investigating language development in bilingual children across three different countries and Professor Jeanine Treffers-Daller’s research on language dominance.
