Multilingualism and Multiliteracy

 

A new research project led by Prof. Ianthi Tsimpli in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, University of Cambridge, will investigate under which circumstances a high quality multilingual education can be delivered in India where many children currently fail to achieve basic literacy and numeracy levels.

 

Roundtable Discussion on Bilingualism

This video is a recording of a panel discussion on "Benefits and challenges of multilingual education in India" organised by British Council India on 18 September 2014. This event was part of the research roundtable on multilingual education that was held on 18 and 19 September in Delhi. Chaired by Dr Debanjan Chakrabarti of the British Council in India, the panel featured Dr Dhir Jhingran (Unicef India), Prof Ianthi Tsimpli, Dr Rukmini Banerji (Pratham – ASER Centre), Prof Paul Gunashekar (EFL University, Hyderabad). The panelists addressed various aspects of multilingual education in India and elsewhere, with critical contributions from Prof Ajit Mohanty and Dr Mahendra Mishra (ICICI Foundation).
